Someone somewhere was looking favourably on the Network of Women on 24
th July as the sun shone brightly (for the only day this summer) and a bunch of golf novices nervously ate a lovely lunch at Elfordleigh. We were all put at our ease very quickly as the resident golf pro, Nick Cook (looking slightly more nervous than we were!) introduced the group to our 7 irons. With an informal, fun and “have a go” spirit we all set to whacking golf balls up the practice range. Only one of the group had ever had any golf practice (and quite frankly you’d never have known it!) and everyone else just wanted to try out a new activity.
Nick gave us a crash course on long shots and putting and the afternoon was filled with laughter, flying divots and “Tiger” Lang demonstrating that she is a complete natural with a club in her hand. Everyone agreed it was a great way to get to know other people in an informal way. For many of us it was the chance to try something we would never have been brave enough to try alone, and we ended the afternoon with a fantastic offer of half price golf lessons and reduced price 2 month membership to the course to enable us to give the sport a go.
I feel I know a number of my fellow members far better now than I did before and found it a great sharing, networking opportunity. We all agreed that it would be great to do again, and maybe we’ll have a go at some other sports through introductory sessions in the coming months. Keep your eyes peeled for other similar opportunities and sign up for the clay pigeon shoot which promises to be filled with just as much fun as the golf event.” ARTICLE BY Carolyn Giles
